Children and Young People Workforce – Level 2 Certificate

This qualification will help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision with children and young people (birth to 19 years of age). It covers a wide range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s settings including early years and social care.
It is also a must-have for all those undertaking the Level 2 Children and Young People’s Apprenticeship.

Anyone who wants to work, or has just started to work in the children and young people’s workforce.

Course Content
This qualification has 10 Mandatory units:
- Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings Knowledge
- Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s setting
- Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
- Child and young person development
- Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people
- Contribute to children and young people’s health and safety Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
- Contribute to the support of child and young person development
- Support children and young people’s positive behaviour
- Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
Optional Units (include):
- Support children and young people at meal or snack times
- Support children and young people’s health and safety
- Support children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs
- Develop positive relationship with children, young people and others involved in their care
- Contribute to the support of children’s creative development
- Working together for the benefit of children and young people
- Understand child and young person development
- Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
- Contribute to the support of children’s communication, language and literacy
- Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties.
- Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
Assessment Type
You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include:
- Written Assignments
- Presentations
- Direct Observations
- Reflective Accounts
- Witness Statements
- Portfolio
Progression Opportunities
It will provide a direct progression route to the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce.

You will:
- Entry 3 or above achieved at initial assessment in English, maths and ICT.
- Study maths, ICT and English Functional skills as part of this study programme based on pre-qualifications (Unless you have a Level 4 or above GCSE).
- Commitment to undertake compulsory work placement for 1 day per week within a school and/or nursery settings.
- Need a DBS clearance.

Aged 16-18
Tuition is free for students ages 16-18.Aged 19+
Course costs to those aged 19+ will vary and are subject on course duration and type (Award, Certificate, and Diploma).Study as an Apprentice
